[Solved] HELP! no network after running repair scripts
After Running UVK on 3 Vista Computers now all 3 networks are not functioning correctly. Whereas they all still access the internet the icon in the notification area has an x through it and says
Connection Status: Unknown
No such interface supported
I went through services made sure all relevant services to networking were set to Automatic
o Computer Browser
o DHCP Client
o DNS Client
o Network Connections
o Network Location Awareness
o Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
o Server
o TCP/IP Netbios helper
o Workstation
Are all set to automatic, still nothing.
Ran combofix and changed to
Connection status: Unknown
The service to detect this status is turned off
There was nothing else wrong with these machines, I had just removed a viruses from them and all were fundtioning normally, I had never used UVK before and figured why not try it.
In addition it deleted all my old restore points leaving me with nothing to turn back on.
Please assist, I need help with this ASAP

Re: HELP! no network function after running repair scripts
Hi Timatc, welcome.
I'm sorry for what happened to you and I will help you to fix that issues.
Please run UVK and go to the System repair section.
Scroll down in the fixes/apps list, until you see the Fix local group access line.
Double click that line, and confirm to run the fix.
Reboot the computer.
Is the issue fixed?
Thanks.

Fred thank you for your quick response.
No that did not do anything, response from UVK was
Fix local group access.

Again I thank you for your quick response, any other ideas?

Re: HELP! no network function after running repair scripts
Also tried the fix on another one of the computers, no effect. Very weird problem, I am no smuck, I have a shop that processes several thousand repairs a year, and this has me stumped... Podnutz really highly reccomended this program, but now I have to burn and turn three computers at my own expense..bummer.
I warn others DO NOT use this version UVK (V.5.8.1.0) group policy editor with Windows Vista SP2, I have never had a problem I could not fix until I ran this program's repair script.

Re: HELP! no network function after running repair scripts
Thanks for reporting. I've made some changes to the Fix group access fix in the latest version, and it seems like it doesn't work anymore. If you don't mind waiting a few days, I will release a new version soon and it will be working again.
Otherwise, you can add the Local service and Network service members to the administrators group yourself manually
Launch UVK, go to the IT/Geeks section, expand the Enable and run (Select) combo box, and click Group and users manager.
In the console's left pane, click Groups.
Double-click the Administrators group, and then click Add.
In Enter the object names to select, type Local service and then click OK.
Click Add again, this time enter Network service, and click OK again.
Reboot and check whether the issue is fixed.

Re: HELP! no network function after running repair scripts
Fred YOU sir are awesome, I did not see the post about the beta version so I removed V.5.8.1.0 and replaced with older version 5.7.2.0 and it worked. Thank you Fred!!
Re: HELP! no network function after running repair scripts
Just one more thing.....This Fred, I assume works for Clarified..answered me within minutes, and had a way for me to solve my problem within a few hours... I do not know any other company that helps people that fast....and this is a free program for the basic features.. Amazing!! Way to go Clarified and mostly way to go Fred!!
Re: HELP! no network function after running repair scripts
No prob, Timatc. Glad I could help. I wish everyone proceeded like you did, posting here at the forum when a bug is found. That would make it much easier to find the bugs.
You see, it's not easy to make a bug free application when you have to deal with more than 40000 lines of code.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Topic solved.

Re: [Solved] HELP! no network after running repair scripts
Yes thank you again... I see it is 4:00am where you are when you were helping me too. Yes I understand the issues when dealing with that much code....that's why I don't code anymore whenever I can avoid it...can't handle the stress. Far as my procedure, I would hope most techs work in a similar fashion, but as I have put about 10 computer repair places in my area out of business in 5 years it is clear they do not..no big...more customers for me. I will make it a point if I find a bug to report it to you.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
Re: [Solved] HELP! no network after running repair scripts
Hello all,
I used UVK on a Vista machine on I think 11/20/2013 and I also got the red x over the network icon. I had to leave town for a few days and had planned on asking Fred for some help with the issue. I did download the newest Bata version 5.8.1.4 and ran “fix local group access” and that has indeed solved the problem. I do have a question though. Has it been identified what was run that broke it in the first place?
Bill

Re: [Solved] HELP! no network after running repair scripts
Hi Bill. I think it was related with the Reset Registry and file permissions fix.
You see, after UVK resets the permissions, it also executes the Fix local group access fix to ensure the services have the correct access to the registry.
But since it wasn't working, it may have caused that issue.
