Bill, I've actually encountered that very issue with the hosts file.

My solution is simply to grab the scroll bar on the right side and drag until I'm at the bottom. It is an extra step, but doesn't involve much extra time, as compared to wheel-scrolling for an age.

Is it possible to call a (.uvk) script or execute script functions from within a custom app definition?

What I'm looking for here is the ability to have a system repair checkbox that will run a particular script or uvk_script function when executed. Not saying that this should be a feature ...

If you added un/re-immunize, how would you determine which items to immunize at the end? Would you go with the 'recommended' items, allow user selection (possibly in the ini file), or have the un-immunize script write some variables to tell what was already immunized, then the re-immunize script ...

I see merits in both approaches.

GUI - Fast, very intuitive, very flexible... This is probably where I'll spend most of my time, because every job is a little bit different.

Script - allows total control and customization, as well as automation of custom apps. Things like (un)immunization ...

I didn't play with ComSpec... instead I was calling cmd.exe.

CMD.exe doesn't know about %ThirdParty%... or rather, it didn't when I tried it.

I *love* the elegance of your second solution, just unzipping straight to /etc. Saves several steps.

That poses an interesting question, which I will answer with testing in the morning.

The setup I ran for testing purposes was Adwcleaner followed by Rkill. It's possible that the Adwcleaner reboot occurs just a fraction of a second *after* UVK launches the Rkill process... meaning UVK would kill ...

The issue isn't resolved yet - there is no autoruns entry for UVK created when the script runs.

Could be something on this PC - I will have an opportunity to test on several others today, and will do so.

Possibilities I'm considering, but won't be able to test until late tonight --- emsisoft anti ...

Just to be sure, I ran the immunization and made sure all boxes are unchecked. I'm sure this isn't the issue, as I've recently installed software and had it succesfully autorun, but it can't hurt to verify.

1. Add adwcleaner to the top list

Create a new 3rd Party Application and name/describe it.

I think the "top" apps are simply links to the routine, like windows shortcuts. In that case, the original app definitions have to remain in place for UVK to know what it's supposed to do.

That's a fair point - in the adrenaline rush I got from seeing the new features, I completely missed the point that I'd no longer need to use the duplicated names. The best way to squash a bug? Create a feature that makes it unnecessary!

Unchecky helps, but no solution is perfect. Still, I tend to throw it on every PC I find with adware/malware, because even just a few less incidents is a good thing.

Note that it won't work as expected if the program you're installing uses a non-msi installer, since it doesn't know what to look for ...
