Is the technician/Single user version you have posted now the one you intended for us to leave on computers?

Hi Jim.

I don't see why you'd want to leave APF on customers' computers, but you can, of course.

Fred, I apologize. I meant for UVK actually.

Oh I see.

You can leave UVK installed with an OEM license, of course, but I understand that is not the ideal solution for you.

We're working in a special type of OEM license that can only be purchased by users that own a PRO/Branding license. Those licenses will be cheaper, so you can make some revenue out out them, and will also allow to keep the original branding. For now, I suggest you keep doing as you did before.

Actually it's my son Simon who's been doing it but he doesn't have much time to work on it, so I guess I'll have to step in.

What I was thinking was the current $25 thing is good as a re-seller idea maybe. We throw it on a computer and mark it up a few bucks for a our trouble and the customer has something they can play around with and hopefully clean the computer up some.

However, for the true tech version I was thinking more along the lines of fifty cents to a dollar per month or something to that affect. It would have the following characteristics.

It would install hidden
It would run GUIless
It would have cloud support (possibly specify cloud settings)
Many of the main switches would be command-line options (Not sure if doing that would be better or using a script to launch UVK with a script woud be better)
Have reporting

I think this would be a good way to bridge the gap between your product that does a great job of cleaning and an RMM that does a great job of monitoring and scheduling.
I conducted a poll over a Ninja's facebook page on whether people would be intersted in a product that offered that featureset and last I checked all but one was interested and that one wanted to know more. I think the last time checked a few days ago about 30 people had responded. It's not a large group so 30 really isn't too bad of a turn out.

Jim, most of the things you request here can be easily added, or even done manually: hide the install dir, remove the desktop and start menu shortcuts, the context menu and the uninstall entry. Run silently is also an existing option for scripts or SR files and reporting is already implemented. That is so easy that I wouldn't even charge anything for it.

Now what do you mean by "have cloud support (possibly specify cloud settings)"? What exactly would you be doing through the cloud?

Most of the items I asked for are scriptable but the question is. Would it be faster to write a script to execute a script from the command line or a script that would use command line switches in the program? I was thinking it would be nice if the license type defaulted to running silently since in RMM you want it all hidden as much as possible anyway. It would also be nice if the license key made the installer leave out all the shortcuts to begin with instead of having to remove the icons manually. Basically I am wondering if that version could be streamlined more for RMM control.

The Tech version you have now, I noticed it does not have cloud support. However, the technician version silently installed should have access so that tools such as program removal work based on our black list. It might also be nice to be able to specify blacklists.

OK, thanks Jim. I'll provide those options in the tech OEM version.

My question is...

If I can't login in any account (specially when there is only one user account which is already currepted),
Is this software can help?

for example:
Connect the hard disk on working system, or
Boot system via CD/USB. or
Run Windows2Go and repair faulty account/drive

Nope this software will not help in that case (That is my assumption). If you can't log into any account, then it's prolly a corrupt profile and using an offline registry editor should fix that. Fred does have a tool in UVK that will fix it but only if you can boot to a profile.

If there's only one user account, and you can not login, APF can still help fix the broken account.

Use Offline NT Password & Registry Editor or a similar tool to enable the built-in administrator account.
Login to the built-in admin account, launch APF from there and fix the broken account.

Thats would be very helpful to me.

Thanks Fred.. :D ;)

Fred, I haven't needed to run the utility until today. Had a PC come in with black screen and cursor and creating a dummy profile logged in. Fired up APF and it wouldn't get past the welcome screens when I tried to keep the appdata info so deleted the temp profile and ran it again without the appdata stuff. Successful log in.

...but the Start Menu's messed up.

The Windows apps are there but the references to them are out of whack. I found that by opening the Store and forcing an update check that the apps would eventually reinstall themselves. Any way that the APF could initiate that check as part of it's process? Just to keep things simpler?

Hi Xander. Thanks for reporting this. I think that's a problem related to this PC only. That never happened to me and has never been reported before. Hopefully you will never need to do that again, but I'll still do some research to figure out if I can do that programmatically.

It started acting up after the Creators Update but it might have had some pre-existing issues that the client never noticed. Right now, it's not loading the subsections of Settings so I'm going to try running it again. My own dummy profile had loaded and I'd run APF from there so now I've just restarted it from within the user's profile (on which APF had already run).
If need be, I'll create a new account manually and move her data/docs over.

I gave this tool a try and it popped up a dialog saying it couldn't create a temporary user account couldn't be made. Not sure why. I'm logged in to a user account with admin privileges and ran the profile fixer exe as an administrator. Any idea why it can't create the temporary user?

Hi ChanYan.

I'm not sure of what may be the cause of your issue. Try the following:

Reboot your computer and Try again.
If that does not work, temporarily disable your antivirus software and try again.
If it still does not work, reinstall/upgrade Windows from the Install media creation tool.

Happy new year!

Hi Fred,
Thanks for the prompt response! I tried those suggestions and none of them worked. I'm going to just manually migrate to a newly created user profile. Thanks!
