Hey,
I have had my fair share of driver install programs,
Most of them install adware, or even make you pay to download drivers.

Outside of Device Manager, is there any other program on the market that is user friendly that can install, update or repair drivers on windows XP, Vista, 7,8. I must have missed it, but cant find anything on Tech Tools software released by your team.

Anyone in the support forum recommend anything?

In regards to the UVK update idea, is there anyway to set the desktop display to optimal for screen resolution on an automated scale, or just by accessing the screen resolution tab manually.

I and a friend of mine use Driver Magician. It's not perfect but it works fairly well. I would prefer a stand alone one but really don't have the time or desire to do through all of them on the market and find the one or 2 two that aint just junk

As far as your auto adjusting the display, post that in the feature requests and see how it goes. people might like it. You never know till you try

The paid ones I've tried that really worked were Driver genius and Driver magician. None of them had drivers for all hardware, but they had for the most common.

Driver genius had a better interface, but as far as I can recall Driver magician had a better database. That may have changed though.

Now that I have less repairs, I prefer to download the drivers from the manufacturer's website. However, Tech tool store has DUMO (Drivers update monitor), which can be used for free with some limitations, and Driver Identifier.

Not a stand alone program, and it does take a monumental effort to download them all. After you do though, you have a local driver repository that you can put on a NAS or portable hard drive. I don't slipstream them into my install disks as suggested on the website. It makes the disk too large and unwieldy. Just keep them arranged by OS and category on local media. Then choose the search feature when installing a driver from the device manager and direct the search to the local media.

Short of that, your best bet is the manufacturer's support website.

I personally like the free version of Driver Booster from Iobit.

I just tried Snappy installer and it is pretty cool. Essentially it downloads all the driver packs and checks your hardware for the drivers in the packs. Almost 9.5 GB of drivers.

Snappy installer is a cool program but I haven't played around with it much. I screwed up my test computer the first time I used it and haven't had time to do much with it after that.

When I looked at it I was thinking it wold take some caution as well. It claimed some of my drivers had updates when I'm not sure they did. I do think it would serve my needs pretty well though. I don't very often need to many drivers. Would like to try it out some more and see what happens.

I installed all drivers with SDI and it actually did pretty well. I was quite impressed with it and quick it was to install them all.

I've been using SDI for a month or so. I like it but I've had a weird thing where most/all PCs on my workbench take forever to DL the new packs but, if I get them from my main PC (SDI's on my NAS for convenience), it's a reasonable speed to receive (considering it's P2P and there doesn't seem to be a bazillions seeds out there).

You shouldn't need to update your driver packs too often as drivers don't change all that often, except video cards. There is always a new video card. Chances are if there is a driver newer than a driver pack a couple months old windows update will let you know...

I know and, when I first started using it, I did them all from my main PC (several GB). On each customer machine since, there's been at least one new pack on every PC (and not just video). They're only a couple of hundred MB so that's not the end of the world but they just seem so much slower to DL than from my own system.

No big deal; just triggers a bit of an eye roll.
