Using UVK through Citrix

Post by heyitsdoug »

Good morning,
Please forgive me if this is answered someplace here. I did do a search on the forums and didn't find anything.

We are using Citrix GotoAssist for remote access (attended) to client machines (Please chime in if there is a more appropriate remote access product in your opinion). We are evaluating D7II currently as one of our main remote access toolbox products as it also has the ability to transfer to a client's machine quickly through a mini file. It also appears quite robust. And in our experience so far we have received excellent pre-sale support from FoolishIT (Brantley). Anyway, I'm sure there are several comparisons here fore me to review between these two products so the actual reason for my post is to ask if UVK can be used remotely without a lot of hassle to either us or our client. D7II, when transferred using the mini file, downloads all files from the client's machine and installs the product pretty quickly, skipping reg and setup screens (as these are fetched from the cloud), for a more pro looking operation and faster resolution times. Does UVK offer something similar? I really like UVK interface layout and customization abilities and certainly the price is very reasonable. But since a lot of our current business is remote access (we're currently doing the tasks manually) I need to be sure UVK can be easily and efficiently transferred remotely to a client's machine.

Sorry for the long post.
THANKS
Doug

Hello Dough.

I'm currently offering a branded UVK updater/installer for remote support techs who purchase the branding version. It's a very small executable (around 300KB) which needs to be transferred to the remote machine and executed. It will automatically download and run UVK portable and activate the associated license.

This offer is currently free, but I may start charging a small fee for it in the future. A dedicated build is created for each company.

Great, Dough!

You can just reply to the message you will receive after the purchase, with a note saying you want the remote updater. I actually only need your email address. I'll send you the updater ASAP. My timezone is UTC+1, so I may be sleeping when you purchase.

Hi Doug,

Welcome! The UVK updater/installer is what I’ve been using for remote support for some time now. It works great. You will not be disappointed and will find the support here to be top notch. :)

I am just now seeing this. Fred, I don't think I know of the remote installer. I would like to have that.

Doug, I came from D7 back when it was D7. When they introduced the bugfix version (I mean D7II) and exponentially raised the price I decided I needed to find another option. While I will refrain from elaborating on my FoolishIT I will say the support here is WAY better than over there at FoolishIT. Did I mention that UVK is fully scriptable? As long as your willing to code a little bit there is almost nothing UVK can't do.

Right "out of the box" UVK has many, many options available you and getting better every day, literally. As long as plans have not changed I know there are a couple cool features coming soon.

These guys on here will tell you I have no love lost on FoolishIT :)

Jim, I didn't know you did remote support. Please see my PM containing the link to download your remote launcher.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the tool self-deletes after updating and running UVK. So, for local testing, always run a copy.

I found the topic where I announced the remote launcher promotion.

Team Viewer is awesome fast. It's kind of expensive though. Whatever you use, you have to be careful to not "Kill all non system processes" in the repair section, or your remote app will be killed too. It would be cool if there was a "Kill all non system processes except remote control apps" feature. :)

Brink, you can configure your remote access application not to be killed by the "Kill all non system processes" fix. In the Process manager, press "Kill all processes", and add the desired exclusions. Don't forget to press Save.

Then, when you run the "Kill all non system processes" fix, in the System repair section the filter will be automatically applied. Just like most UVK settings, the process filters can be exported to an ini file, in the Options section, and automatically loaded into other machines.

Nice. Thanks Fred. Seems I always ask for the already included feature. :)

No problem, Brink. I'll just remove your feature request.
