Some question about TTS

Post by Muhammad Tasneem »

I am little old now to understand :D thats why I ask Fred instead of to do some experiments...

1- Whats the difference between TTS and Ketarin (https://ketarin.org/) As per his website:
Ketarin is a small application which automatically updates setup packages. As opposed to other tools, Ketarin is not meant to keep your system up-to-date, but rather to maintain a compilation of all important setup packages which can then be burned to disc or put on a USB stick.
2- Does TTS install old version or it only install new version. Like on windows XP, the last working version of Microsoft Security Essential is 4.4.304.0 (now the latest version is 4.9.0218.0)

3- Does we use TTS work as software updater like ninite/Chocolatey/Secunia PSI/SUMo etc.

4- Is it possible to make different profiles (set of pre-selected products for Installation) in TTS
(like we select some apps to install and save the list (example List-A, List-B etc) for next time use on different machine.

May be you already answered them but I can't find it...

Ketarin is harder to setup but is scriptable which gives it a leg up.

Only the latest version as far as I know but Fred could clarify that more.

It can. If you update the version in TTS and then run it, TTS should update the version installed.

You can have as many saved selections as you want. From what I can tell there is no command line yet but there could be maybe.

It is not "Can it be done?" but rather, "How can we do it?"

I have heard about Ketarin few years back but never use until I download GEGeek Tech Toolkit http://www.gegeek.com/. http://www.gegeek.com/documents/85BB69B ... ADA38.html. Intially it was freeware and he use Pstart as its menu navigator but later Mike converts into donation-ware and also use SyMenu as menu navigator. I think it the biggest ever Tech Toolkit (if we consider for freeware). You can find many Fred's Apps in this collection.

Toolkit comes with basic apps and you can uptade it with Ketarin.

Hi guys.

Muhammad, ketarin allows you to download files from the internet. As Jim said, it has some scripting features that help you to keep your files up to date, such as combining the URL of a web page and a regular expression. Mostly, it's the same you can achieve with the <UpdateSoftware> command in UVK scripts, except, from the way I see it, my method is much easier. Custom system repair apps and TTS use the same method as <UpdateSoftware>, except they provide you with a graphical interface that makes it even easier to setup the downloads. UVK and TTS also provide more and better options to run the downloaded files. So, in general, I think you have better features in TTS than in ketarin.

Tech Tool Store was inspired by the Gegeek's tech toolkit. When I started working on TTS, I contacted Mike (Gegeek) and asked hime if he wanted to partnership with me in the project. He said he couldn't, bu I was welcome to copy the tools I wanted. I can't really compare the two programs because I never really used the Gegeek's toolkit in repairs.

TTS can be used as software updater and also contains tools that are software updaters themselves, such as SUMO and DUMO.
One thing we humans have in common is that we are all different. So, if you think you're weird because you're different from everyone else, then we are all weird.
