Windows PE

Post by Brink »

Have you ever been reading tech topics and someone mentions that they did something in PE? No it does not mean Physical Education and has very little to do with recess. :) They are talking about Pre-Installation Environment. The Pre-Installation Environment or simply PE is the graphical user interface that you see during a windows installation when you boot from installation media.

An in depth explanation of PE can be found on Microsoft's website (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/lib ... S.10).aspx )

If you would like to jump right in and start using PE you can take advantage of WinBuilder. They are a third party that has made it possible to build your very own PE. WinBuilder's GUI program makes it very easy for anyone to "roll their own" so to speak. This makes it possible to start a non bootable PC from boot media that has the PE on it to affect repairs. Check out WinBuilder at http://winbuilder.net/
