[Solved] Cant enable Windows Defender Windows 8.1 x64

Hi Guys,

I have a windows 8.1 x64 computer that I can’t not turn windows defender on. There is no other antivirus on the computer but it did have McAfee. It’s been uninstalled and I even ran their uninstaller. Can I simply export the registry key from another windows8.1 x64 computer and give that a try?

I’m open to suggestions. FYI: This computer had many popups as well as fake antivirus software. I used UAK to kill them.

Hi Bill. It probably has more infections. Probably some rootkit preventing WD from enabling.

Have you tried TDSSKiller and aswMBR?

Thanks for your reply. TDSSKiller is running right now. I’m going to throw everything I have at it and see what happens. I’ll let you know how it comes out,

I got it working. It seems to of had something to do with remnants of “SLOW-PCfighter” and/or the firewall not resetting the first time around.

Do you have the registry entries or files of those remnants? I could add them to the UAK's database.

Crap Fred,

I don’t. (Fail) I didn’t save anything. I think it may have been the firewall but I’m not really sure of that either. I couldn’t install my remote support software or set the clock to the correct time & zone until after running Malwarebytes.
