I have a HP Pavilion a6200n desktop PC that the CPU, Case and power supply fans keep running after its shut down. Bad power supply? This is not the reason it was brought to me.
It has Windows Vista 32bit. I just updated the BIOS from v5.20 10/03/2007 to v5.27 12/01/2012.

Tried cleaning and new heatsink compound between the sink and the cpu?

Thanks Brink,
I will try that first since I can’t find the box with new power supply’s in it.
I guess I should have listened to my wife when she told me to mark my boxes when we moved. That’s a top secret statement though, I wouldn’t want her to know I said that.

Hi guys. Yeah, that sounds more like a motherboard issue than a PS issue. Cleanup is a good idea, as Brink suggested. Update the firmware was also well thinking.

You’re likely correct Fred.
I’m thinking something is shorted. This computer was really dirty as if there is a bunch of food frying going on. Not as bad as if in a restaurant but pretty clinging stuff. I blew it out as good as air would do but I still wonder. I don’t see any bad capacitors but haven’t pulled the board out. I’m going to try a few things when I get back home and will post back with my actions and the results.
I once had a laptop that spent it’s time in a restaurant that was locking up and shutting down. It was the dirtiest computer I’ve ever seen. I cleaned the circuit board with denatured alcohol and a tooth brush and it worked great again. My theory was the heavy grease was causing shorting of components.

Hey guys. I found and tried a new power supply and that has fixed the issue.
I’ve never seen this before so I have learned something today. Now I have to see if this guy wants to have it replaced or leave it as it is. He never mentioned that the fans keep running. It came to me with pop ups as the main complaint.

Thanks for sharing, Bill. I wouldn't bet it came from the PS.

Nope.... I thought I had tried everything else except a different power brick for that laptop. Different one didn't change anything. Not surprised but I have tried everything else I can think of.

LOL Bill
I usually have one on me. I have thought about it a few times but I don't want to possibly have to give up my guns over a POS laptop
Our European friends are wondering why we like guns so much
