What does this function actually do?

Hi Jim.

I had recently noticed an issue with all my PCs: They were not shown in the Network folder. I still could access those machines but they were just not listed there. I assumed it was when MS removed the Homegroup, but I can't say for sure.

While I was digging for the cause, I noticed the Function Discovery Resource Publication Service (FDResPub) was stopped and it was set to start manually. Well, this is a service required for the network discovery to work properly, so I started it and the computer I was working on immediately became visible in the network folder. I did the same with all other machines and they all became visible.

So I decided to make a fix out of this, which also configures and starts a few other services: Browser, upnphost, LanmanWorkstation and LanmanServer. That's what is does.

And I was assuming it has something to do with SMB 1.0 being disabled because re-enabling it on a couple of systems seemed to do the trick. PCs weren't seeing my older NAS (running SMB1) But, rather than leaving PCs with a potentially unsafe service running, I just switched to running UVK off of a flash drive.
