Board will not keep time

Post by Charger440 »

Just throwing this out there... I have a laptop that will not keep time. It defaults to 2001.

Three different montherboards

2 different CMOS batteries. Both confirmed to have over 3V on them.

No HD/With HD

Different and reordered RAM

Windows is not an issue as this happens when only booting the BIOS.

With and with out main battery

With and with out NIC

I'm beating my head against the wall as I have never hear of or seen anything like this....

Hi Jim. I was gonna say the MB is faulty, but you already tried 3... You have a reason to beat the head against the wall alright. Jut don't hit it too hard, OK. You may end up breaking the wall :D
One thing we humans have in common is that we are all different. So, if you think you're weird because you're different from everyone else, then we are all weird.

Yep, that’s a super strange deal. If you figure this out it may be one for a twilight zone episode. Do let us know if you come up with something.

Reload the firmware. Find the latest Bios for it and flash it.

Did that as well :)

Thanks for the idea though!
Although statistically speaking the firmware should not affect all three boards but I did it anyway.

It’s crazy. I’m not a rocket scientist but I don’t understand what could possibly cause this once the MB has been replaced and it has a good battery and the clock has been set. Just out of curiosity, what kind of laptop is it?

That is a weird one. Maybe it missed the memo and thinks it's a HAL 9000 from 2001. I would not let it near any POD bay doors.
