Re: Spinning up a CD Cleaner automatically for a set time
Wow. I certainly wasn't expecting a full script written for it. If I'd even suspected this could be done with a script, I'd have looked into it myself. (Now googling mcisendstring commands). I'm going to see if I can adapt it into a GUI-less version to: setaudio off (see? already learning), open CD ...

Spinning up a CD Cleaner automatically for a set time
As a little "value added" service, I'm incorporating a cleaning of their oft-neglected CD drive as part of my setup and, obviously, I want to automate it. The disc basically just needs to spin for a minute to get the job done. It has audio tracks to walk you through it but, really, it just...

Re: System Info - include DNS
I missed mentioning that. UAK didn't remove it. That's how I confirmed it was there but it was unchanged after running the cleanup.
Could a clearing of the DNS also be included in that then? Clearing that should be somewhere in the SR set."The Reset DNS settings fix only runs..."

System Info - include DNS
S'il te plait? Just had a remote job where somehow Norton's DNS had gotten into the system. No idea how but it's out. Did make me realize that DNS isn't mentioned in the System Info report. Incidentally, Fred, resetting DNS with the System Repair didn't flush it out. Had to pull out HijackThis to do...

Re: New UAK
That worked, Fred. I usually let UVK uninstall on my system. I just uninstalled it again with the "%ProgramData%\UVK" folder open and saw that none of its contents were removed. I even re-ran it and check "delete logs" and, instead of deleting the rest of the contents, it added a...

Re: New UAK
Just fired up UAK (5.3.0.0 for the record) on my own machine and, even though it successfully syncs the whitelist, it fails to update the database. Ran it on the fresh-install of Win7 on my bench and it started up fine, ran quickly up to the malware scan and then that phase took just over a minute t...

New SFX: Could it save the path?
Minor but would be handy. With my remote software, I keep my WinRAR-made SFX file in a OneDrive location that shares between the 2-3 computers from which I can do remote support. Having the SFX maker save the path would be a nice little convenience.

Some script aspects not firing
Fred, I've finally got some time to fine tune my 'quick tuneup' script <UVKCommandsScript> <RunWait> "\\nas\_uvk\third party\niniteone.exe /updateonly /disableshortcuts /allusers /cleancache" ;once this runs, I'll throw in the /silent parameter; it works as is from the Run box <UAKScan> ;w...

Unlocking c:\Programdata\UVK doesn't stop UVK from crashing here.

High CPU while UVK waits
More of an FYI as it struck me as odd that it was using any CPU at all at this point while just waiting. CPU usage during the MBAM install was 20-45%. Oddly, once the install finished and it was supposed to have been doing the scan itself, it dropped back to zero (but the scan never did start on ver...

Re: Built-in scans not firing
Running it right this very second on a Win7 Home Premium with the (always) most recent UVK. Last one it skipped the scan on was also Win7. For UVK's built-in scans, I opt for UAK, MBAM, RK, ADW and AvastBC. For reference, the Avast Browser Cleanup is also getting skipped most of the time. So, for me...

Actually, I was going to post that RogueKiller hasn't been running lately. Says it's updating and then moves on to ADW.

No, that's pretty much what I've been doing. As with most of my steps, I'm just looking to see if there might be a more efficient route to doing the same thing.

Re: Autorun.uvksr
Hey guys. I can add a new tab in the options section to allow scheduling a maintenance script or UVKSR file. Might as well check out if the system booster's auto schedule dialog fills out your needs. Double-checked in case I'd misread what it offers but that seems to be strictly for when you're lea...

Re: Smart Uninstaller - some form of Cancel
Still coming up from time to time...
I recognize that this is using Forced Uninstall (didn't realize I'd had that checked) but it was sitting there for ~5 minutes before I had to kill UVK's process.

Built-in scans not firing
Got a netbook in - lady fell for the fake error message scam and called them, let them remote in and, when she didn't have a form of payment that they wanted, they locked her out with SYSKEY. Got control by restoring the registry hives from the RegBackup folder. Now, just double-checking, cleaning, ...

Autorun.uvksr
How about if UVK looked for an Autorun.uvksr file on its startup and, if present, ran it the first time UVK started on that system ( max once per day so it's not running on reboots )? I run a basic cleanup of just about anything that hits the workbench so, as a 'value added' service, I'd like to thr...

Chkdsk on next reboot not clearing itself
Had this on a couple of PCs but just checked it officially on the PC on the bench - after the reboot, the extra line in Session Manager remains and doesn't clear itself. As a result, I've had to remote into a couple of machines to clear that entry. In the SR list, there is the 'cancel' fix immediate...
