Bill, I've actually encountered that very issue with the hosts file.
My solution is simply to grab the scroll bar on the right side and drag until I'm at the bottom. It is an extra step, but doesn't involve much extra time, as compared to wheel-scrolling for an age.

Re: View host file shortcut
Bill,
While more shortcuts are always awesome, the entire hosts file is included in the autoruns section.

Calling a script from with System Repair?
Fred, Is it possible to call a (.uvk) script or execute script functions from within a custom app definition? What I'm looking for here is the ability to have a system repair checkbox that will run a particular script or uvk_script function when executed. Not saying that this should be a feature, ju...

Re: “add to top apps and fixes” Possible bug.
If you added un/re-immunize, how would you determine which items to immunize at the end? Would you go with the 'recommended' items, allow user selection (possibly in the ini file), or have the un-immunize script write some variables to tell what was already immunized, then the re-immunize script jus...

Re: “add to top apps and fixes” Possible bug.
Jim, I see merits in both approaches. GUI - Fast, very intuitive, very flexible... This is probably where I'll spend most of my time, because every job is a little bit different. Script - allows total control and customization, as well as automation of custom apps. Things like (un)immunization are a...

Re: MVPS Hosts File Install Routine
I didn't play with ComSpec... instead I was calling cmd.exe.
CMD.exe doesn't know about %ThirdParty%... or rather, it didn't when I tried it.
I *love* the elegance of your second solution, just unzipping straight to /etc. Saves several steps.

Re: UVK Doesn't Survive Reboot
That poses an interesting question, which I will answer with testing in the morning. The setup I ran for testing purposes was Adwcleaner followed by Rkill. It's possible that the Adwcleaner reboot occurs just a fraction of a second *after* UVK launches the Rkill process... meaning UVK would kill the...

Re: UVK Doesn't Survive Reboot
The issue isn't resolved yet - there is no autoruns entry for UVK created when the script runs. Could be something on this PC - I will have an opportunity to test on several others today, and will do so. Possibilities I'm considering, but won't be able to test until late tonight --- emsisoft anti-ma...

Re: UVK Doesn't Survive Reboot
I should have specified - this account is an administrator.
Just to be sure, I ran the immunization and made sure all boxes are unchecked. I'm sure this isn't the issue, as I've recently installed software and had it succesfully autorun, but it can't hurt to verify.
Running the new beta now.

UVK Doesn't Survive Reboot
I'm probably doing something wrong, and if so I'd love to know so I can correct course. Win 8.1 X64 Fully Updated UVK Portable 6.6.2.3 beta Preparation: UVK Folder on desktop with uvksr, key, and ini files in place. Shortcut on desktop. Steps to replicate: 1. Add adwcleaner to the top list 2. Add TD...

MVPS Hosts File Install Routine

The file URL is http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.zip (direct download) Save it on the current user's desktop (%userprofile%\desktop\hosts.zip). Re: “add to top apps and fixes” Possible bug.
I think the "top" apps are simply links to the routine, like windows shortcuts. In that case, the original app definitions have to remain in place for UVK to know what it's supposed to do. What I have noticed is that the checkmarks *do* appear to be independent, so you can leave your custo...

Re: Run Built-In Routines from Script
That's a fair point - in the adrenaline rush I got from seeing the new features, I completely missed the point that I'd no longer need to use the duplicated names. The best way to squash a bug? Create a feature that makes it unnecessary!
Thanks again, looking forward to this one.

Re: Run Built-In Routines from Script
Saw the new beta! Will be putting this into use tomorrow - thank you, thank you, thank you! This is exactly what I needed to 'just run it' from a script... Also, really loving the "top apps" section and ability to add and rearrange - gives a graphical way to do the same thing. I assume the...

Re: Unexplained change in Memeo Backup Premium start up
Unchecky helps, but no solution is perfect. Still, I tend to throw it on every PC I find with adware/malware, because even just a few less incidents is a good thing. Note that it won't work as expected if the program you're installing uses a non-msi installer, since it doesn't know what to look for ...

Uninstaller Whitelist/Blacklist
This is a big one, but... In the uninstaller pane, it would be nice to be able to right click an item and "whitelist" it, removing it from the view (and adding the whitelist entry to the settings.ini file for persistence). Over a period of time, it would improve a tech's ability to quickly...

Loading UVKSR causes double check boxes
Version/Platform: Beta 6.6.2.2 (Portable) on Windows 8.1 Update 1 x64 Issue: It appears the "checked/unchecked" state of built-in apps is linked to the same state of custom third party apps that use the same name. Background: I use the custom third party section along with the feature to u...

What's in your 3rd Party list?
I'll start... I customized my third party section by rearranging the built-ins so I could control the order... My usual anti-malware stack: CCleaner Slim tdsskiller (with dcexact flag for silent removal) Rkill Adwcleaner (builtin) Malwarebytes (builtin) Unchecky (watches for software installers and ...

Re: Kill all non system processes whitelist
OK, so I found out how to manually exclude files (whitelist) when running that fix. Have I overlooked anything that explains how I would include this as part of my automation routines? I don't see a file created in my uvk portable folder - assume it's a registry key or something? If so, where do I f...

Re: [Solved] AdwCleaner automation
Bill, I've been looking into finding a remote platform for moonlighting use. My current employer uses LogMeIn Rescue and I'm very familiar with it. Is SimpleHelp a good platform for you? The things I'm looking for in a platform are the usual - screen sharing, uac handling, file transfers, automatic ...
